Au seuil

Au seuil is inspired by the H.P. Lovecraft short story "The music of Erich Zann." The story follows an unnamed narrator who rents a room in a building where Erich Zann lives, a reclusive old man who often plays music in his room in the attic. Fascinated, the narrator tries to learn more about Zann’s music, which grows increasingly frantic at night. Eventually, he discovers that his performances are an effort to hold back dark cosmic entities. One night, the barrier fails. Zann is consumed by the darkness and the narrator glimpses an incomprehensible void before escaping. The cosmic entities are never described, apart from the rushing sound of wind.

Fathoms Below

A person sits on a boat, on a sunny, comforting day. A storm rolls in and rocks the boat, plunging them into the sea. However, the person realises that they can breathe underwater. They start swimming around, interacting with the marine life. After a while, a rumbling, luring call is heard from below. Again, the luring call is heard. The call gets stronger and stronger and eventually frightening. But it's too late, the sirens pull them down to the abyssal depths below.

L I M I N A L

A liminal moment is an uncanny suspension between contrasting states, where it isn’t defined as one or the other, but both simultaneously. This piece explores liminal moments in pulse and tempo. Depending on your perspective, the music could be getting faster, slower or both at the same time. The piece is written for the same instrumentation as Andy Akiho’s Seven Pillars.

Introspective Kaleidoscope

A sonic reimagining of one of my own pieces, inspired by the concept of an "exquisite corpse", but played against myself instead. Like turning a kaleidoscope, each moment reveals a new perspective, refracting the past into something fresh and unpredictable.
