A part of me, Apart from me

Work Note:
The phrase “A part ofme, apart from me” is borrowed from the Bon Iver song “Holocene”. It’s a phrase that has stuck with me for a long time because of its simplicity and beauty. The bittersweet quality of the major seventh chord seemed to me a worthy choice to represent this poetic homophone. The chord’s inherent balance between consonance and dissonance is something I find beautiful and fragile. This piece explores the combination of the major seventh chord and glissandi, which results in a story of transformation through morphing and separating sonorities. Whether the change is for better or for worse is up to you.
