Decay - Connect Festival 2025

Inspired by the Commedia dell’arte theme of the 2025 Connect Festival, this piece depicts the gradual decay of a society driven by greed and corruption. The piece unfolds in seven distinct sections, each representing a stage in this decline. Through shifting musical landscapes, this piece offers a reflection on power, greed, and the fragility of civilisation.

A sense of Foreboding sets in, with a dark, unsettled tone hinting at the turmoil ahead. This gives way to Populism, where bold, unctuous melodies presents the allure of easy answers. A Lone Voice emerges. Fragile yet persistent it attempts to resist the tide.

As Corruption spreads, the lone voice is corrupted, leading to the rigid march of Militarism. The system soon reaches its breaking point and Collapses, unraveling into chaos and silence. Finally, only The Remains endure, an echo of what once was, fading into stillness.
